2025 - The Steps of the Mighty by H Lawrence Sumner - Yellamundie Festival

The Steps of the Mighty

Beth was a sprinter in her younger days. She could outrun any whitefella on the track, with or without shoes. These days she is lying in bed, in a nursing home – waiting for the Sydney Olympics to begin.

Spencer, Liam and Jimmy are her three children. Spread around the world doing their art or their sport.

Beth has been telling her kids about a girl from Mackay who can run like the wind. It’s her dying hope that all three of her children will catch this race and watch the girl from Mackay run in the steps of the mighty
