What is the project about?
Murrawarri Rainmakers is a dance theatre piece being crafted by descendents of the Murrawarri People.
Premiering in 2023-2024 on Murrawarri country in Weilmoringle.
Inspired by stories of the rainmakers. Whose knowledge brought them to Sydney and Melbourne in the 50's & 60’s to break the drought.
What’s the timeline?
Year 1 (2020/21):
Week 1 (27 June - 2 July): Canberra; Research. To gather Murrawarri Rainmakers paraphernalia, historical documents, photos, archival footage etc.
Week 2 (3 – 10 July): Weilmoringle;
Share findings in communities workshops, to invoke memories for Story-Sharing.
Year 2 (2021/22): Creative Development at least four (4) weeks on country with a showing to Elders/Community.
Year 3 (2023/24): Creative Development, Rehearsal and Presentation. Ideally six (6) weeks on country with a World Premiere and Regional Tour.
